About me

The legal work and the technology behind it.

I’m a qualified lawyer (England & Wales), legal engineer and solution developer. I help in-house legal functions turn technology spend into real value.

Maximilian Henkensiefken

I started out as a commercial lawyer at Amadeus, negotiating IT contracts and advising on data and mobile. Along the way I began automating the contract work in front of me, and that turned into a career: building the systems, apps and integrations that lawyers actually use.

Today I lead Legal Technologies & Operations at Amadeus, and through Henken.Tech I advise legal teams and consultancies independently. My approach is simple: pick the right solution for the job, and where there isn’t one, build it.

Because I understand both the legal work and the technology, I can talk to lawyers, vendors and developers in their own language, and make sure what gets built is what the legal team needs.

Current focus

AI for legal, from first principles.

AI is where I’ve focused most recently. I design and lead AI strategy implementations for legal, favouring domain-specific AI over expensive, niche legal-AI platforms, backed by structured multi-vendor evaluation.

  1. AI Ready

Getting the data and processes ready, so AI has something solid to work with.

  2. AI Evolution

Building the skills and tools that put AI to work on real legal tasks.

  3. AI Legal Service Delivery

Embedding it across everyday legal service delivery.

Career

Twelve years at the intersection

  1. 2022 to present · Erding

Head of Legal Technologies & Operations

    Amadeus

I lead Legal TechOps for Corporate Legal Affairs, heading a large team across custom development, digital contracting and operations. We act as the sophisticated buyer for legal tech, procuring the right platforms and managing the vendors. We implement and integrate with existing systems, and when off-the-shelf won’t cut it, we build.

We own the core legal tech stack (CLM, e-signature, service management, legal document management), a large estate of low-code and cloud solutions, and the operating model for how legal technology and operations are delivered. I also own the department’s AI strategy, including multi-agent systems for corporate policy and legal advisory.

  2. 2022 to present · Munich

Legal Tech & Power Platform Consultant

    Henken.Tech Legal Tech Consulting

Independent advice on legal technology and process automation: the right platform choice, implementation, customisation and integration, so clients are in control of their legal solutions rather than at the mercy of a vendor. With AI reshaping legal work, I help separate what’s genuinely useful from the hype, and put it to work.

  3. 2021 to 2022 · Munich

Practice Director: Ironclad CLM and Head of Development (Power Platform)

    SYKE (now Consilio)

Led CLM and Power Platform projects across the DACH region. Ran Ironclad CLM implementations, headed Power Platform development, and delivered and customised solutions for SYKE’s clients as a qualified lawyer, certified app developer and data analyst.

  4. 2019 to 2021 · Erding

Legal Counsel, Legal Technologies & Operations

    Amadeus

A role created specifically for me, in recognition of the efficiencies I’d delivered through process improvement and technology. I built systems, automations, apps and APIs for the legal function, always designed around lawyers as the end users, and was recognised as Amadeus’ most senior expert in Microsoft Power Platform.

  5. 2014 to 2019 · Erding & Madrid

Legal Counsel, Commercial Data & Mobile

    Amadeus

Commercial counsel for the commercialisation and procurement of booking and travel data, and for the Mobile Unit on consumer, data protection, procurement and customer transactions. Led multi-million euro IT contract negotiations, and started the contract automation and process improvement work that shaped the rest of my career.

  6. 2012 to 2014

    Legal Intern

Beiten Burkhardt (Munich) · Stamp Jackson & Procter (Hull)

Employment law research and case reports at Beiten Burkhardt; commercial property, personal injury and business law at Stamp Jackson & Procter.
